Helpful tips

  1. When making a bag from a continuous roll first cut a suitable length of material from the roll allowing at least 8 cm extra length for sealing at both ends.

Now place one open end of this piece directly on the sealing strip of your machine, this is the brown strip at the front.

To make placement of the bag easier place it with the curl facing downwards.

DO NOT place the open end past this brown strip and into the chamber area when making a bag as the machine will draw the outside air and never reach vacuum and seal.

  2.       When attempting to seal bags of food containing oily fluids such as Seafood, Poultry and Bacon a more satisfactory result will be obtained if absorbent material (Paper towel or Soaker Pads – P/n AS100) is placed in the upper region of the bag above the food but below the seal position. The purpose is to collect fluid and prevent it from limiting the ability of the bag to weld sufficiently. This technique will also limit soiling of the vacuum chamber making cleaning of your machine simpler. Also take care when placing food into the bag not to make the bag mouth greasy/oily in order not to compromise the sealing quality.

 3.        Some vegetables such as Carrots and Beans are best prepared by peeling and or blanching with hot water in order to reduce enzyme activity and the amount of gas given off.

 4.        To package liquid foods such as soups and stews in vacuum bags it is recommended to pre-freeze them overnight in a suitable size container and repackage into a bag the next day. Alternatively you may vacuum pack these foods in MagicVac canisters without the need to freeze.

5         If liquid is extracted from a bag during the vacuum process and enters the vacuum chamber remove the oval shaped black foam gasket before carefully wiping the liquid from the chamber.

6         If the black foam gasket (upper strip or lower oval) should become soiled they may be carefully removed and cleaned with warm water and left to dry before re-inserting into machine. Should these gaskets become damaged they may be replaced easily, please contact your dealer or Vacuseal for replacements.

For a more detailed explanation of these above points please refer to the “Operating Manual” and the “Manual for the Vacuum Preservation of Foodstuffs” booklet that came with your machine. It is
suggested you read these booklets in detail to obtain the best possible productivity from your machine.

Care and maintenance of your MagicVac Champion/Maxima machine

Foam Gaskets

The foam gasket around the vacuum chamber and the adjacent gasket in the upper lid form an integral part of the machines function and as such if they become soiled, worn or damaged the function of the machine is impeded.  This can result in both poor performance and possible damage to other components of the machine.  The gaskets are easily removed and replaced by the end user.
In order to overcome problems associated with deteriorated gaskets we advise our customers to exchange these gaskets regularly with a fresh clean set. Soiled gaskets can be washed in warm water and allowed to dry naturally (in the shade) then placed aside for re-use at a later date.
Over time you will also notice that a small indentation will form in the rear section of the lower gasket, this is normal however it can eventually result in air leakage and degraded performance. To overcome this simply remove this gasket, turn it over and re insert it.
New gasket sets are available directly from Vacuseal or through the agent where you purchased your machine.

Sealing Bar

To avoid damage to the heat seal bar please observe the following. The special non-stick surface (brown PTFE tape) is designed for use with the supplied packaging materials only. If the machine is used to heat seal other  types and grades of material then damage to this surface may result. It is also important that this surface be kept clean of contaminants such as food particles, oils and fluids by cleaning with a slightly damp cloth. Proper regulation of the heat setting (right hand side control knob) is also important to avoid damage and to achieve consistent results. The setting required will vary dependent on several factors such as the ambient temperature,

the heat setting (right hand side control knob) also important to avoid damage and to achieve consistent results. The setting required will vary dependent on several factors such as the ambient temperature, the mains voltage in your area and the length of time and number of cycles the machine has operated for in the current session. Typically we would suggest starting with a sealing setting of approximately 5. If you are sealing many items in rapid succession it is suggested to lower the seal setting after every couple of cycles to avoid too much heat being generated in the sealing strip. Too much heat is indicated by a blistering or white haze effect in the surface of the bag being sealed. This may result in not only a failure of seal of the bag but can also damage the sealing strip. A proper seal is indicated by a clear band from one side of the bag to the other of approximately 2 – 3 mm wide.

When making bags from the continuous rolls follow these points for best results.

First ensure that the power switch (Green) is in the off position, then open the lid of the machine and pull  out a suitable length of material. Close the lid, depress the cutter firmly and slide across to cut the material.

Fully open the lid each time before pulling on the roll of material otherwise the upper gasket may become adhered to the material and pulled into the path of the cutter resulting in damage to the gasket.
When sealing one end to make a bag, first place one open end onto the brown sealing strip only, DO NOT place this end into the vacuum chamber. As this material has been rolled it will have a slight curl to it. Place
the material so that it curls downwards. Select a low vacuum setting (left dial) of approx 8-11 then select  the appropriate heat setting (approx 5 for the first 1-4 bags). Switch the machine on and depress the lid to
start the operation. Remember to reduce the heat setting as you progress to avoid excessive heat buildup and over welding of the material. Upon completion of making the bags from rolls don’t  forget to  to  readjust it to its
normal (Max) position before vacuum packaging product.

I hope the above information enables you to achieve the maximum benefit from your MagicVac machine and provides for a future of trouble free operation.
